before we start this episode, I want to take the time to thank all of my listeners out there over this past month who have been extremely supportive and given me amazing feedback. I couldn't be doing any of this without you. Do you have big visions and dreams with some challenges in your way? Do you truly believe that you can live? Are you making statements like I just need to start doing this or I want to be better with that where I have to be more like this? Well, then this episode is going to change the game for you, taking you closer than ever before towards living your vision injury. Hello, everybody. And welcome back to injure Tooley podcast. I am your host, Dr Dave Meyer, dream coach and physical therapist alongside the one and only performance coach and expert John Denny. Today, today's topic is affirmation, something that John has coached me on. Personally, I can attest to the profound impact that's simply changing the words you use can have on your ability to catapult closer towards your goals before we jump into it. I want to give all of my loyal listeners out there chance to receive my three steps to success. Webinar by subscribing now to the podcast screen shotting review of the injured Tooley podcast on Apple and sending it over in a direct message to me on Instagram at Dave M. Meyer That is spelled at D A v E M m E Y e r. And if you haven't done so already, make sure to go check out the harmony exercise dot com Ah, guided meditation that builds in these affirmations statements into a daily practice. John. Great to have you back, my friend. Super psyched to be here, so I thought it would be a really cool episode to talk about affirmation, something that you've educated me a lot on since we've been talking. So what is an affirmation statement and why is it
spk_0: 1:52
so important? They create our reality positive or negative, and affirmations work in both directions so I can say, you know, I'm just not good enough. I don't believe in myself. That's an affirmation, and that's a dangerous one. On the other end of the spectrum, weakens, weaken, have our affirmations that I'm the best I can be in. Really, those statements become our emotional reality in life? No. And I and our our self confidence level two.
spk_1: 2:23
Right? So, you know, I think it would be a good introduction into this by using me as an example. I'm not gonna be too shy about it. I tend to make these statements that I stated in the introduction. I want to be doing this more. I need to be doing this more. And you've called me out on it quite a bit of a few times. And I found that to be pretty helpful by changing, changing the way that I affirm my purpose
spk_0: 2:51
so that so let's look at it this way. If you say I need to do this or I have to do that, What? What is your true belief system at that point? And your true belief system is that you don't have those things you're without. You are within one. You actually do not have the things which you are saying you want. So regardless, if you want those things you really believe you don't have, so we have to change the belief system. First, I have to change my fundamental story that that I do believe in this and and you know there's there's a state, there's a there's a saying I really don't like fake it till you make it right And but But it has a very true ring. Do it at the same time because we do need to re program ourselves to something which is not necessarily objectively true at the moment. Okay, and you know, champions or champions before they play the game. They don't wait for the results. They're already a champion. Before they went everyone out there. And so it's this changing our belief system, and it is done through these affirmations through the visual ization process. But the affirmation process. You know, it takes you about two seconds to know what somebody's about, because you just sit with them for a minute, and before you know it, they'll be telling you the things they want, the things that they're not, and you can find a person's belief system really in a matter of moments. So
spk_1: 4:27
it's it's with. It's not just affirming its believing.
spk_0: 4:31
We do not get what we want. We get what we believe, so you know, we need to start affirming something, though I am healthy even if I am under the weather, something's going on. I need to affirm the thing that I want to be. I have to start with that affirmation and I have to start with my highest visual ization of myself. And that's what I have to start a firming to get those things back. So it's it's the after murder. The affirmation leads to belief systems, you know, in a you know, it's all about R. B s David. It's all your B s. And a teacher of mine says that nervous starts laughing. Is it? Yeah, it's all about your belief system, you know, But your B s I like, know our belief system and R B s are one in the same, you know, So they are really synonyms, belief system or the other B s we all talk about. It's really no difference. And as we you know, we need to start changing that, and that's what we talk about you and I talk about all the time. It's what your story, you know. And you know, I've had people come into my office telling me that they don't have is you know, they don't have the money. The competitors have. They don't have the equipment to competitors have. They Don't have this. That I sit there and I'm just like what? You know the first thing I hear this story, it's a story of defeat. I'm like, you know, you already done. You know, before you ever even start and it doesn't matter. I thought I had this one race car driver and and, uh, you know, I said, that's not a good story. And he went out. And when the next three races, with 35 less horsepower than everyone else. And I was like, See, it really doesn't matter. It's what we believe about ourselves. So
spk_1: 6:16
we don't get we want. We get what we believe.
spk_0: 6:19
That's a big one. We do not get what we want. We get what we believe and that's why so many people. Why aren't I getting my vision? John, I wrote these visions down. This is what I wanted. I set my intentions and I'm like, Well, honestly, that's all crap. Unless you've worked on your deep fundamental belief system. So I wrote it down. How many times did you put it in right action? How many times did you put this in universal harmony. How many times did you go to sleep seeing yourself as this thing, you know, because that's what we believe. We need to work on our belief system and our belief system is completely workable. You know, it's not something that it's not set in stone. We can change it. We can change the way we believe. You know, that people thought the Earth was flat, you know, Now we understand it's round. And like many other things, we could use that same example
spk_1: 7:15
being that we're talking about visions and dreams, something that is interesting to me. When I talk to people about their goals, with respect to what you just touched on, you can see it. Like you said, when somebody truly believes that they're going to go out, that they're doing it, that they're gonna continue doing it versus I really would like to do this. I'd really love to see myself playing this sport at a higher level. But then there I have one collegiate baseball player, Division one baseball player. He just went to a very big program, and he truly believes that he's going to play in the major leagues ever since he was a little kid, he truly believes it. And I think that's that's the difference. Right of wanting and believing
spk_0: 8:02
You believe that kid? I believe him. Yeah, that's what I'm saying, man. It's infectious. When someone believes in themselves, you can't help but believe in them, you know? And that is, you know, that's a really example of true clear vision. And, you know, you know, David, the problem with most people is not not getting what they want. They don't know what they want, you know. And that's why I told you, you know, why have I chosen the population to work with that I work with? They come in, they got that box checked off. You know, I don't want to sit there and try to create someone tryingto help someone figure out their passion. I want to help someone get better at their passion. Now I'm not. I'm not against helping will find their passions, but that's just not my strongest suit. You know, my strongest suit is helping people become better, but they need a passion to become better at
spk_1: 8:54
without getting too up off topic. I think you bring in a big point for coaches. Whatever you wanna call us. Guides, coaches, the physical therapist. A lot of times a lot of us can fall into the trap of preaching what people should be doing. But you're 100% right when somebody comes into a physical therapy clinic or whatever and says to me, This is my goal. I want to be able to walk five miles without pain. Okay, I could help you with that. If you just come in saying I don't want to feel pain, then I say, I really can't help you with that because pain is in your brain and I'm not performing a lobotomy on you.
spk_0: 9:25
If someone comes in and says, I don't want to feel pain, what is their belief system? Their belief system is there in pain, right? And so, at the fundamental level, the person that wants to get out of pain believes they're in pain. And I know this is completely out there because pain is pain, but we have to start with that mindset. You know, if I want to be in pain, if I want to be out of paint, I need to be in perfect health.
spk_1: 9:49
You and I are on the same page there, John. Especially with the holistic approach that we're talking about. Absolutely. And that's an episode three. We talked a lot about that at that spot on. I'm glad you brought that up. You have to change your thought. You have to change your thought. You have to firm that you're not in pain. You have to firm that you are. You are functioning,
spk_0: 10:08
you know. I need to fake it till I make. I am not in pain. I am perfect health. Even if I am having a certain man in what we've talked about before with their own nine year old stuff, you know, you tell your doctor you tell your chiropractor where the pain is, but don't doubt anyone else, Certainly people that can help you, you and your chiropractor, maybe having a different conversation. But the conversation that we all should be happening is seeing it was perfect health. And again, it's not faking it till we're making it. We're reprogramming our minds and, you know, I read a quote in a sermon. I did a few weeks back and said The usual conversation among people leads to El Health, not good health. Now that's a very scary thought because and it's true because people claim my arthritis, my bad back.
spk_1: 10:57
They own it.
spk_0: 10:57
I know my hip, my knee. And they claim the ailment. They claim it right? That's what they believe now, you know, and I'm not saying they don't have a bad knee or a bad neck or whatever they don't have. But to get it better, we have to change the mindset and then we have to take action to back up that mindset. So if if I want to lose £20 I have to say I'm cutting out wheat. Well, then I have to cut out Wheat. I gotta stop eating and I can't just say it. It doesn't work to just say I'm going to do these things. That change has to be implemented. If I overcoming an injury, I have to go to the P T. I can't say Okay, Yeah, I'm supposed to go to P. T three times a week and I'm getting my arm back in shape. But if you're not going to the P. D, you're not getting that benefit,
spk_1: 11:44
you know, and everybody that knows my approach knows that I want to teach people to be their own guide their own PT. So exactly what you're saying. You have to focus on the function. You have to focus on what you got that's working for you and taking control that So the in the book injured suite that I wrote exactly what we're talking about, taking ownership off, driving your body forward in the direction you want to take it and changing those patterns. And those those habits, because really be they become a habit. It almost becomes, like you said, Ah, conversation starter. Let's talk about my ailment. And so I I think that's a great summary of why it's so important to change what we're saying. And so you kind of touched upon this a little bit earlier. When I coach this to some in terms of these affirmation statements, sometimes I receive the comment Well, if I told my cell or if I tell myself that I am already doing this, then how am I going to stay motivated? You know, I received this from a ballplayer. How am I going to stay motivated if I already made it to the big leagues and I'm in the whole thing
spk_0: 12:50
because realistically and objectively, we're not. That's our vision and our dream. However, I need to keep taking action one day and from another to make my too to be able to make that vision come true. The whole point in having a vision or a goal is so that we get up in the morning and put one foot in front of another and go and do some, you know, and the people who are depressed, the people who get stuck in their house and isolated and all that those air people who don't take action. They were visions and goals, but you know, they were waiting for it to come to them, you know? And I think you know, there's some. There's some principles. There's these five principles we talked about, but the the last one of the five is taking action. You know, if we're not taking action, the 1st 4 don't matter. You know, the vision and the the thoughts and everything else don't really matter because we need to take action. We need to go and the only way that guide or the universe can really give us. What we want is, if we're out there looking for, you know, seeking, you'll find. So
spk_1: 13:56
I've heard you say this faith is the connection between hoping and knowing. Am I saying that, right?
spk_0: 14:01
Yeah, that's right. That's exact. Faith is a connecting link between hoping and knowing. So that brings you back to what you just said to you have this vision that you're in the Hall of Fame, playing in the big leagues and all that. That's your vision. And now you have to really have hope and faith. You know, you really have faith. You can. People don't set a vision unless they have the faith. They can achieve it, right? I have high visions for the Harmony exercise. You have high visions for this podcast and the other things you're doing. And we have faith in ourselves that we're gonna be able to accomplish those things, right? Well, in the middle there, there's this element of hope, You know, I was like, Man, I hope it happens, right? And we can't deny that. But once it happens, you know, once you do win your first tournament, once you do get in the Hall of Fame then the hope is no longer needed, you know. So now you know. And once, you know, really, once you know that you know something faith and hope are no longer needed at that
spk_1: 14:56
point. And it seems as we're talking this out, faith is one of the underlying important principles here. You have to have faith, and it seems like when you affirm these things like I affirm I have a 1,000,000 subscribers to the injured to eat podcast. When I firm that what I'm doing right now is I'm living in that moment. Right now, I have a 1,000,000 subscribers. That's where I'm living. That's where my thought is. It lives there. And so, you know, as we're talking to this, I would tell somebody now that I that I'm working with, Look, you're living in that moment whenever that is, however, that is, it's right. Now you're living in that thought. You're living in that purpose in that vision and continuing to do that is going to take you there,
spk_0: 15:41
right? Absolutely. But living in that vision I'll take you there if it the same time you believe if you have the faith. If you truly believe you know, I mean, I can't tell you how many times I wrote down I'm gonna make a $1,000,000 this year or just some random thing that I thought was a vision, you know? But they're so out there. There was really didn't believe it. Now I did have another experience where I wrote down my visions and goals for the next year, and they were all achievable. They all had. They were achievable. They were realistic. They were attainable. They had all those smart attributes right there, sparkles. And as I was writing them down, I still kind of didn't really have full belief they were gonna happen, moved in six months. All of them happened. I was I was working with the University of Louisville and Kentucky, getting flown down there to work with the golf teams. My all my presentations were done. I had a professional golfer and these were all vision and goes that I'd written down now they weren't out there like I'm gonna make a $1,000,000 this year. They had a foundation. I'd worked with high school teams. I'd worked with some college students. I'd worked with many pro players, so I had done the groundwork. I wasn't setting these goals out of some sort of ether, you know, like I'll just have a $1,000,000 next year, you know? So they were very attainable specific goals yet I didn't know how they were gonna happen, and And when I look, go back and I connect the dots How each of those visions and goals manifested. You couldn't have ever planned it out the way they actually happened. But they all happened. I didn't know what college I wanted to work for. But the way that that one worked out, I didn't know which pro golfer I was gonna work with. But the way it worked out, the way the connections worked out the people, It's just you cannot deny that this stuff works.
spk_1: 17:35
Yeah, that's powerful. To hear how you've seen it happen in your own life. And I can tell you I've seen in my own life
spk_0: 17:41
I want to bring it back around. You know, we've gotten a little bit in divisions and goals right now where we really talked about affirmations in the you know, our topic today was affirmations. And how do we change our belief system? How do we change our fundamental thoughts? And that is through these affirmations. I call it mental reprogramming. If if I say I hate this, I hate this. I'm going to start saying no, I love this. This is you know I can do this. I got this and I'm gonna start changing my entire emotional reaction to that specific thing. You know, if you find an amateur golfer and he's like, I hate this club, you know, he'll never hit it Good. If you find a professional baseball player in the guys like, you know, I just cannot throw a knuckleball. Well, that guy is never gonna throw a knuckleball until he decides I can throw a knuckleball. And then he goes out one day and throws a couple of bad ones and then starts to and then but his belief system will lead to him throwing a good knuckleball. Throwing a good knuckleball won't happen unless he starts to change his belief system. So if a person comes to you and Nazer story, you know my my fastball, my curveball, my cider. All great. I just cannot throw a knuckleball. Well, that's his belief system net. And then What you would want to do is say, Hey, why don't you tell me a story again? You know, I got my fastball, my cider and my curb and I'm working on my knuckle ball and I'm gonna have the best badass knuckle ball in the, you know, in the major leagues. No. So I'm already believing that I am gonna be able to throw this bitch
spk_1: 19:11
and let's take that. Let's take that felt a little further. So let's take a knuckleballer in the big leagues. Take that knuckleballer and put him back to 11 years old. And we wonder, what was this thought then? Maybe he just learned about a knuckleball. And then a year or two later, he tries to throw the knuckleball. And what happens? It looked pretty good. Maybe his thought was Wow, I could throw a knuckleball. And then he threw it again. And then the thought grows with it.
spk_0: 19:35
Nice air striking out some people. And it was like, Whoa, I could be the best knuckleballer in the world. And then and then I forget that guy's name who was the best knuckleballer in the world. But, you know, that's exactly how it happens, and I talked to athletes a lot. You know, I'm like, Are you gonna be happy when you win? Or are you gonna be happy so you can win? That is that little shift there is a grind him into the grind until I win. And then when I win, I'll be happy. Well, guess what? You're gonna be doing the grind because that's what I believe. You're gonna be doing the grind, you know, And then those other champions You see these guys, they're already winners there. Winners before they get out the car.
spk_1: 20:12
That's a powerful statement. Being happy to win, being happened to perform. Don't wait for it.
spk_0: 20:17
And now how do you be happy? I am happy is sincere. Attempt to be happy will result in happiness. Happiness isn't the result of winning money. Good marriage. Nothing. Being happy is a poised accomplishment, regardless of what it looks like. When a sincere attempt is made to be happy, you could be happy. I'm proof of it. You know, I'm happy 99% of the time, I because I set the intention to be not because I wait for something good to happen to me. and that goes along with everything else to really
spk_1: 20:49
and you're in control, you're in control to your life and you're deciding on this a lot of people in high level activities and and performance and all kinds of things and business executives. You can think that it's just all random. Or you could think that you have everything to do with how you see the world, how you see yourself,
spk_0: 21:10
you know, you've heard it's not how we do it. People say it's about your actions. It's about your actions and your reactions. They're one in the same. So how am I reacting to my input on how my acting on it knows? Two things need to sync up there.
spk_1: 21:25
So bring it full circle here with the Harmony exercise. I want people to learn a little bit about how affirmation is built into the harmony.
spk_0: 21:33
It's the foundation of it, you know, out of the seven exercises, six of them have to do with affirmations, and we have to claim those things we want to be. So the harmony exercise is set up in a way where we become the principles in it. So you relax and you become Relax, ation. You become health, harmony and abundant supply by a firming those principles over and over. And it goes back to that biblical statement. We are transformed by the renewing of the mind. So whatever thoughts you're renewing your mind in new each and every day, that is what you're gonna become. And if you really want to know what your thoughts are, sit back. Take a little inventory of your life inventory your relationships, inventory of professional life, inventory your personal life. And then you can sit back. Look at that. And you can know exactly what your thoughts are about Interesting and checking your affirmations. What are my? I am thoughts, you know, What do I really believe is it that I am awesome and I can do whatever I want? Or is it? No, I am less than and ah, lot of people don't believe in themselves, and they'll be the ones to say, Oh, yeah, that guy's an ego centric guy, right? But he's not ego centric. A lot of times insecure people look a secure person calling them ego centric because they have something they don't They don't understand. When the Abbas they have self confidence, ego centric. They're just confident in themselves, you know? And that's that's, Ah, great quality. But people don't have it, you know. They don't know what it is, so they label it
spk_1: 23:13
well, I can tell you firsthand on top of you coaching me on affirmation and how to change my ver bage when I talk about my visions and dreams, which has helped tremendously. The daily practice through the guided meditation with the Harmony exercise dot com has been extraordinarily helpful to start my day off with the I am statements. I am perfect health, and and and I hope she's okay with it. But I'm gonna bring my fiancee into this a little bit. She sometimes gets headaches and things to that of that nature, and she practices the harmony exercise as well. And when health or symptoms of any type come in, we've learned now to reestablish health by using those I am statements so she will recite. I am perfect health. I am perfect health, and you could say it sounds kind of wonky, but it's not because I'll tell you what happens changes everything. The rest of the day. For her is totally different and the headaches go away if
spk_0: 24:11
they dio. You know, here's an example when my back used to go out. David, I don't know if you've ever had back problems.
spk_1: 24:17
I've had back pain
spk_0: 24:18
the first time your back really goes out and you and your back locks up and hits those nerves is the worst pain you've ever had, and it's very scary. I mean, you're so scared that it could get worse, that all you can do is lie down right now. What's the worst thing you can do for a bad back? Lie down and not move bed rest? There's not much you can do during the initial seizure, but what I've found over the years is my back used to go out. Fear would come, and that bad back could last two weeks because I was so scared to make it worse. I wouldn't move. I wouldn't do it. Then I wrote read Dr John Sarno's book Healing Back Pain, The Mind Body Connection, and I was like, He's like, You're not gonna make the worst you need to get it moving. As soon as you're out of the acute lockup, get moving 98% of bad backs are caused by mental and emotional. Well, guess what? Now when my back seizes upper locks up, it's a 24 hour episode. If that
spk_1: 25:19
and the reason being a physical therapist and seeing a lot of people the chronic back pain. A lot of people believe that there's a dysfunction on a local level in the spine that there's inflammation. You know some of my inspirations. Dr. Lorimer Mosley and David Butler, who wrote the book, explained Pain. Similar principles to the book by Dr Sarno is great as well, and they talk about thought, viruses, and it becomes a thought virus. My back is never going to get better. I'm locked up. Locked up is a thought fires. It's not locked up. Actually, you can move it, but it's It's a matter of changing that thought exactly like we're talking about here. I'm going to get better
spk_0: 25:59
soon. You know, I we could do a whole podcast on thought virus. I've never heard that concept thought Byers, But what better way to describe the fact that a thought manifest itself physically in our bodies? It literally becomes a virus of some sort and the gnarliest thoughts will become the worst viruses and and eventually, you know, they create the ulcers, the hemorrhoids, the the bad backs and bad next on and on and on the cold source. There are so many ailments. I used to get cold sores and especially when I was an emotional points in my life. But I knew during if I had a full on meltdown temper tantrum, whatever I could Suddenly my my my lip would start to tingle and I'm like, Oh, my God, here it comes. I'm going to get one right now, so that is literally I could identify the thought that went along with the virus that was causing my cold sore.
spk_1: 26:59
Well, affirmations, air thought cures,
spk_0: 27:02
Yes. Proper affirmations, air thought cures right or yeah, or a good virus, right. Helping virus like, you know, some viruses kill other viruses, but whatever, it's a great idea. But the idea is our thoughts are absolutely creating our physical reality every moment, and that includes our bodies.
spk_1: 27:20
And so if you're if you're listener out there and you have, whether it's physical or not, whatever you're your things that you're going through our it's the same concept. It's the same concept. You have to change your thoughts by affirming your visions.

Okay, That's a great idea. You got a firm what you want. Now we go back to that. So why is the harmony so great? It gives us the foundational affirmations we all need. I don't care if you're a baseball football player, a banker. You need health. I don't care. Whatever you do, you need harmony. You need good relationships. You need that. I don't care. Whatever you do, you need an abundant supply. You need a roof over your head and food to eat. If we don't have thes foundational principles, we're never gonna be the best. We could be at any vocation. So Carol made it very clear to me. And he said, We all need these foundational principles. Wherever we go, the harmony is our foundation. And then whatever we do is our application. So my application is sports psychology and teaching meditation years is Petey and and the podcast in the same thing I'm doing, you know, But none of us are the same. You know, my good friend, Coach Dan put something on social media said he goes life is like the sun. Each of us are array in each of the rays of the sun as a specific angle. It fills, and no other Ray can fill that angle of that, others on meat. And each of us individually is a son being true with its with its own angle. Nobody can take my angle, bro. I'm not in competition. I got no one to compete again and right. We all need to have that mindset. No one could be David Meyer. No one could be joined any. We are what we are, you know. And so the more we embrace that fact, the better life becomes.

I think that's where we can leave people with John with being their own unique Sunray being them and affirming that affirming what they what they are and start believing in it. You have to believe it. You have to have that faith. John, thank you for coming on here today to talk about affirmation. I think it was incredibly powerful and even talking it out with you. I think it's even clear to me now more than ever, how we need to continue on that path. Using these affirmation statements. Well, John, thank you so much for coming on the show today.
